Harrison Urban Garden 2011 Season Update:

The urban farm produced approximately 811 pounds - donated to Care and Share Food Bank (rainbow chard, carrots, green beans, potatoes, onions, squash, zucchini, pumpkins, herbs)

30 plots for community members and businesses (based on what we observed they grew: tomatoes, eggplants, green beans, lettuce, potatoes, flowers, herbs)

There are also 5 fruit trees - peach, apple and cherry.

The Harrison School District is excited to be a partner in the Harrison Urban Garden (HUG) with LiveWell Colorado Springs, Pikes Peak Urban Gardens, and the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region.

We are happy to see this land adjacent to our District Administrative building be converted from unused land into one exhibiting civic activity - engaging the residents within this community to grow healthy foods for their families.

As of April 2011, the school district has an average free and reduced lunch rate of almost 73 percent. With our partners, such as Pikes Peak Urban Gardens and Care and Share Food Bank, the urban garden will grow and provide accessibility to fresh, healthy foods to the residents of this community that need it the most.

We appreciate the opportunity to be a part this project - bridging the gap between school and the community.

The garden is located on the corner of Lake Avenue and Harrison Road, next to the Harrison School District Two Central Administration Building.

The garden is managed and maintained by Pikes Peak Urban Gardens. Please email Larry Stebbins at Pikes Peak Urban Gardens larry@ppugardens.org with questions.
