Staff Fringe Benefits

Date of revision:
January 24, 2013

Staff Fringe Benefits

The District shall offer voluntary medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance and disability insurance for employees who are scheduled to work four (4) or more hours per day.  Each employee shall further be expected to cooperate promptly and fully with the administrative office in carrying out procedures necessary to provide these benefits.   District employees shall participate in the Public Employees' Retirement Association in which both the employee and the District make monthly contributions.

Benefits for Employees on an Approved Leave of Absence

An employee may continue in the health, dental and vision programs provided he/she pays the entire cost (the employee and District portions) for these benefits, as long as they are receiving pay from the District sufficient to cover the entire cost, in the situations below:

  • The employee is on an approved leave of absence and is not FMLA-eligible.
  • The employee is on an approved leave of absence that extends beyond the twelve (12) weeks covered under FMLA.
  • Depending on the reason for and length of the leave of absence, participation in the voluntary and additional life insurance plans and the long-term and short-term disability plans can continue. Contact with the District benefits office will be necessary to determine if your leave meets the criteria that allows continuation of these plans.

Employees may self pay premium(s) for health, dental and vision insurances ONLY if they are on an approved Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave, still within the twelve (12) weeks covered and they have ceased to receive pay.  Employees, on unpaid leave and who are outside of an FMLA period, have the option to continue District benefits through COBRA.

Workers' Compensation

All District employees are covered under the Workers' Compensation Insurance Plan and shall be entitled to all the prescribed benefits.
